The Tilt table system does double-duty in a home or apartment, transforming from a dining table to a coffee table in a matter of seconds. In an office, the table and base stack neatly for storage and assemble easily for impromptu meetings or fluctuating workstation needs. Tilt tops are available in several sizes, in both color and wood veneer finishes.
When on end, the nickel steel base set "snaps" securely and solidly into the table top, creating a 29” high table. The top is easily removed, and when the base set is placed on its sides it transforms into a 14” high table. Tilt tops are available in two sizes and several finishes. Their MDF-covered honeycomb core keeps them light enough to remove and change, but extremely sturdy. The currently available wood finish is an oil-rubbed European walnut veneer from sustainable forests. The finish on the color tops is a spray-coated polyurethane paint. The tops are interchangeable on the bases, so you can switch from a smaller color worktable top to a larger, swanky European walnut top for a dinner party. The Designer: Mathias Frei studied graphic design at the Schule für Gestaltung Zürich from 1990 to 1993, and then worked with Hannes Wettstein at Buero für Gestalltung. He spent the next several years in Hong Kong working for various architecture and interior design companies. Back in Zürich in 1997, he launched his own interior design firm, creating stores, restaurants and office spaces including PÈclard, Frame Eleven, Chocolate Films, Zoorestaurant Basel and the No Way store. In 2004, after much experience studying how people really use spaces and furnishings, he designed, developed and brought MShelving to market. It has received much critical and commercial success in Switzerland. In 2005 he followed it up with Tilt. The Fabrication & Materials: The table base set is made of nickel steel. The wood finish table tops are made of an oil-rubbed wood veneer (European walnut, European cherry, or Japanese sen) over a thin layer of MDF surrounding a cardboard honeycomb core, and the color finish tops are sprayed MDF over a cardboard honeycomb core. This construction allows for lighter weight tops that can be easily lifted off the base for converting the table from desk/dining height to coffee table height, or for stacking the top and base set against a wall for storage. The base set has small steel probes that snap into corresponding hard rubber sockets on the underside of the table top, making it very secure and sturdy. The Options: Tilt tops are currently available in 3 colors (white, black and orange) and one wood veneer (European walnut). There are two sizes, one that can serve as a desk and seat 4 people very comfortably (or 6 if they squeeze a little) or a larger option that can seat 8 or act as a conference table. The best way to design your own Tilt table is to use the Composer. |
